Day 49: Okay Lord, It's Complaint time: Where Are the Best Things In My Life?

Day 49: Okay Lord, It's Complaint time: Where Are the Best Things In My Life?

Read: Psalm 13; Luke 18:1 - 8

I suspect that there are several here today that are asking the same questions David asked. How long are you going to remain silent? How long is it going to take you to reveal to me all these wonderful ‘best’ things? How long is it going to be before I finally get my breakthrough in life? I can just imagine how many eyes have been looking to the heavens: “How long, oh Lord, will you forget me forever?” Okay God, I have this complaint against you and I very much require an immediate answer - Right Now!

David asks four times in this Psalm: “How long O Lord?” A very simple and a very valid question, it shows frustration and intense desire for relief and deliverance. It ought to get God’s attention. Perhaps all along God wants very hard to gain our attention. Perhaps God allows us to wait for a response so He can be absolutely sure that He has gotten our undivided spiritual attention. Now perhaps He’ll respond. As we each get hotter and hotter under the collar, we become more and more focused on God. We try to rationalize all manner of ways, methods to figure out how to coax God out. God knows that there are many who are complaining that He is taking too long to respond. It is one of the hardest things we'll ever do to wait patiently upon the Lord.

Many broken - hearted people have cried out those words to God. A well-meaning Christian may confidently try to reassure "God answers every complaint - yes, no, or wait." To which I would probably respond in my heart: "What a cruel response that is to someone in pain." And I guess that the shock on that person's face would tell me that we are not supposed to challenge the down-pat responses we have likely heard so many times in our own past. At the wrong moment it is just a cruel thing to say. How important it is to just recognize and accept where that person is at that moment. How important it is to try to come along side and try hard to be very compassionate.

When someone cries out those words of complaint to God in pain, fear, anger, or frustration, we dishonor them and dismiss them when we toss off a ready-made answer like that. We have to take them seriously or we will lose their trust in us - and we will never have a chance to share the truth. God does answer our complaint - but at times it feels like forever before the answer comes. We need to be honest about our own struggles with prayer and show how God has worked in our lives. We need to admit that at times we didn't like the answers we got. We need to get real about how long we have waited at times. Perhaps you too are still waiting for God!

Today, and for as long as it takes Pray Psalm 13 with every bit of emotion your spirit can muster. Let God know how you really feel deep down in the depths of your soul!! Pray Until Something Happens. PUSH against the Gates of Heaven. Raise your Storm!
