Day 99: His Name Is Called El Zokher, The God Who Remembers
Read: Isaiah 49:14 - 18; Isaiah 55:8 - 9
Our memories of yesterday, New Year's Day are soon to gone, but never forgotten. It is now the day when the mankind comes out of the haze of an extended vacation that began at Christmas and sadly, ended yesterday. It is now time for going
back to the day to day grind of reality in the workplace and children
returning to their schools. It is time now to focus less on the
lessons of yesterday and turn to the memories to be made today. Gone are
the memories of the years of our lives that have gone by but how are
they to be remembered? Today I want to share with you what I believe to
be in the deepest places of God’s heart, within the deepest recesses of
His memory.
One might wonder about the incomprehensible
thoughts that swirls around in the mind of anyone of us who have,
through no fault of their own, have found themselves stuck in this
thing called the human condition. Can you remember a time way back when
.... life was so much simpler because there a lot fewer high technology
gadgets requiring a PhD intellect to operate them safely and
efficiently. I was having a curious thought just now, wondering and
pondering, and I appreciate that it's probably very hard to work out
considering the things we are always forgetting, but what is the memory
capacity of a human brain given in gigabytes (or more likely) in
terabytes?
You see, we are a species that prides itself on its
intellect and our ability to create memory that we will ever need in
one or even a dozen lifetimes. We do not serve a God of intellect – who
looks at the state of mankind and responds by analyzing the causes and
hypothesizing about what possible courses of action could be taken from
here. We serve a God of deep emotion, of incredible passion, of intense
feeling. God is not a calm God, rationally considering all points of
view and then mediating and building consensus among the major
stakeholders. God reacts, He gets intense, He shows us His feelings and
His heart. He is El Zokher, The God who remembers us all.
What I
believe is in the deepest place of God’s heart, in the very deepest
recesses of His incomprehensible thoughts and unsearchable memory bank
is an intense, burning, passionate memory of His love for people.
That's all people, from the very beginning of creation, continuing right
this very minute and throughout every single tomorrow. Indeed, in
El Zokher's sight a thousand years are like a single day, like
yesterday — already past — like an hour in the night (Psalm 90:12). Have
you ever felt that God has forgotten you? Been waiting a long time for
answered prayer? Trust El Zokher, The God who will always and forever remember you because
you are engraved on the palms of His hands.
