Day 158: "Jesus Knows What Is In Your Heart"
Read: John 2:23 - 25
It promises to be a long rewarding day today as I continue to prepare
for the next Kairos (Inside) teaming meeting. Kairos is a prison
ministry designed to bring Christ's love and forgiveness to all
incarcerated men, women and children, to their families and to those who
work in the prison environment. Kairos Inside weekends are held in
men's and women's correctional institutions. The weekends are designed
to help the residents experience spiritual renewal and to help the
residents accept God's call to a life of Christian witness and service. I
ask that you find a small amount of Kairos time, 'God's perfect time' to lift us, the support team, Chaplain, the 'Residents' up in prayer.
Today's devotional effort comes directly from the "Listening To God" by
Bruce Bickel. Here these words from the "Listening To God" devotional
book as if God is speaking directly into your life. May the Father, Son
and Holy Spirit add their infinite blessings and infinite wisdom to the
reading of these words as they seek to enter your heart:
23
'Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover feast, many believed in
his name when they saw the signs which he did; 24 but Jesus did not
trust himself to them, 25 because he knew all men and needed no one to
bear witness of man; for he himself knew what was in man.' JOHN 2:23 -
25 (Revised Standard Version)
"As one of my human creations,
you have many qualities and abilities that set you apart from other
living creatures. You have a spiritual dimension that gives you a sense
of Me. You are self-aware and possess an internal moral compass. Of all
living things, humans alone communicate with Me. You are indeed special!
At the same time, there are certain things you cannot do - even if you
think otherwise. For example, it is impossible for you to know the true
motives and inclinations of any other person, even your closest friend.
You humans are very guarded when it comes to your hearts.
I,
however, do know what is in the heart of every person - and so does my
Son. Whatever hidden thoughts and intentions you have, whether you act
on them or not, are known by Him. In fact, as far as Jesus is concerned,
an intention of the heart is just as real as an action of the body.
Knowing this, commit your heart to My Son. Lay before Him your fears and
temptations, your dreams and desires - everything that makes you who
you are."
Let Us Pray: Holy God, Word made flesh, let us come to this word open to being surprised.
Silence our agendas;
banish our assumptions;
cast out our casual detachment.
Confound our expectations;
clear the cobwebs from our ears;
penetrate the corners of our hearts with this word.
We know that you can, we pray that you will, and we wait with great anticipation. Amen.
