Day 20: A Timeless Invitaion: An Eternal Gift -- A New Purpose
Day 20/100: A Timeless Invitation: An Eternal Gift -- A New Purpose
Read: Acts 26:9-16 (Saul/Paul testifies before the Roman Court), Gospel of Luke 4:42-43, 2 Timothy 1:3-14, Romans 8:28-31, Psalm 57 (David's sure deliverance from
the hand of Saul), Psalm 138 (David acknowledges God's faithfulness),
Isaiah 55:1-11 (Great Commission - Old Testament).
Place
yourself as Paul did before the Roman Court. Stand before them for they
have brought you to to this place for a purpose and you have chosen to
come willingly. Stand up tall on top of a soap box in a tent city before
a crowd of homeless people as Jesus called us to do. Stand as you are
able to answer the people (Luke:4:42-43).
Why should we
want to leave 'forsaken' behind? To what end? For what purpose? We have
been here a long time and are set in our ways. Why should we walk away? For what purpose? What about this word 'purpose'? What about 'purpose'
can compel people to change the 'long road', the course of their life as
they know it?
Purpose: To have a sure purpose in life gives us
a sure sense of direction. It can serve to dispel feelings of despair
and daily anxieties. Purpose allows us to plan the course of our daily
lives and put one foot in front of the other with determination. We are
all here for a specific purpose and this gives us a true sense of
meaning.
"I have a purpose!" It may not be what we originally
had planned. It may not even be the best for me in your eyes. You may
not understand it, but I have chosen to live it. A homeless person may
tell you "I have chosen to be homeless and live in the woods for a very
real reason for a very real purpose." "I have made mistakes in life
...." I know being in these woods is my only lot in life and I am
probably content with that."
Your purpose for standing tall on
that Soap Box is to convey the message of hope and the possibility that
God might have a different purpose in mind and you would enjoy the
opportunity to come along side and help them to see what God's purpose
is for them. Every new relationship, task, motive, goal and plan carries
with it a new purpose through which Father Son and Holy Spirit can
transform other lives. It can transform purpose into passion to share
and bring new hope and new purpose where there may be none. Purpose to
transform the community into God's Kingdom.
That is where the Good News comes in. It is God who has determined that we should be redeemed, given a one way ticket off of 'forsaken'. It is God who gives us purpose, gives us the plan and shows us the way to get there. If we come with open hearts and open hands, if our purpose is to discern God's message of love and we ourselves delight in sharing this purpose and passionately strive to make it our own from beginning to end, the results can be a stunning and miraculous transformation of our world
communities. God is faithful! God will bring all things together and
create new life and new purpose.
Pray today that the Author of
purpose will reveal to you what yours is. Rest in the blessed assurance
that it will become clearer each day, it will become more and more
passionate to you and that your life will be stunningly and miraculously transformed
thru living it. Amen
