Day 17: Making a Commitment - God's way
Read: Psalm 33 (12), Proverbs 16:1-3, Luke 9:57-62, Philippians 2:12-13
1. Commit = to bind or obligate, as by pledge or assurance; pledge: to
commit oneself to a promise; making a choice to be committed to a course
of action.
2. Commitment = A personal promise made by an
individual or by a group choosing to bind and unite themselves together
in common purpose to strive towards and achieve a desired goal. A pledge
based upon a strong sense of passion and purpose.
Today I am
asking you to consider these questions: What are you most passionate
about? Where does your strongest (and Yes, weakest too) sense of
commitment lie? What gives you the greatest strength and the strongest
sense of purpose(s) in life that you will willingly choose go to no end
to strive toward and struggle to achieve?
Tall questions for a
Fourth of July to ask and I ask your forgiveness for interrupting your
train of thought directed towards celebration, cookouts and fireworks.
But the questions still remain and I pray that you will take the time to
consider them well.
It is our nations 236th birthday. When in
God's name a group of men came together in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and
committed Treason. They signed a Declaration of Independence from
mother England. They came together in common purpose and committed
themselves to a path of freedom and new birth they were ready to fight
and die for. Intelligent men, men of stature, men of principle united
themselves and gave birth to a nation. Then the common people came
together and shed their blood among countless battlefields stretched
across each colony to celebrate that birthday.
I pray that as
you and your families come together today to celebrate our Nation's
Birthday, as you have your cookouts and watch grand displays of
fireworks, that you first and foremost praise God for His eternal
commitment, abundant grace and mercy that keeps us free and strong.
Bound and United in common purpose(Psalm 33:12).
I likewise
pray that you will take the time to consider well all the battlefields
men and women fought and died on to keep it. Consider well all of our
nations military service men and women who continue that commitment in
places like Iraq and Afghanistan and countless more to defend us. Thank
God for all of our veterans and current service members who willingly
choose to continue to strive for and commit their lives.
Pray for God's blessing and hedge of protection upon your service men and women.
Pray on behalf of our nations veterans for health and wellness. For the
Healer to come along side of them and their families as they strive to
recover from the scars of war. Pray in the name of Jesus Christ and
commit yourselves and strive for peace.
Happy 236th Birthday to the United States of America. God Bless America!!!
