Day 162: From Darkness Into The Light

Day 162: From Darkness Into The Light

Read: Psalm 74; John 12:37 - 46 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

'Remember Your congregation, which You purchased long ago and redeemed as the tribe for Your own possession. Remember Mount Zion where You dwell' (2). Yes, it would be a truly awesome thing indeed if while we are struggling with our homework and our getting up early each morning, while we are having a hard time trying to put the best face forward meeting each of the daunting challenges of daily attendance at the school of hard knocks, it would be nice if we were remembered even some of the
time. What an amazing way to start a new day each morning looking out our broken windows to see the rising sunshine, to feel the Son's or sun's warmth on our ever frowning furrowed darkened faces.

Did you catch what I just did? Did I spell "Son's" right? Should it be "sun's" warmth? Which one best defines where you are at this moment then where you would much prefer to be: 'God my King is from ancient times, performing saving acts on the earth. You divided the sea with Your strength; You smashed the heads of the sea monsters in the waters; You crushed the heads of the Leviathan; You fed him to the creatures of the desert. You opened up springs and streams; You dried up ever - flowing rivers. The day is Yours, also the night; You established the moon and the sun. You set all the boundaries of the earth; You made summer and winter.' (12 - 17)

From these amazing verses can you tell what just happened to that school of hard knocks you were surrounded by? 'God my King, the Ancient of Days performed saving acts on the earth. Or in this case, The Son of God, The Ancient of Days just walked on into the building encasing your life and said "There is a new Principal here. The rules have changed. From now on We (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) will light these dark hallways. My beloved, from now on when you are groping along the walls looking for a Light switch, you will find My Son, Jesus Christ, The Light Of The World (John 8:12). Now, can you see the darkness begin to change as a new Radiant Presence enters in? Can you tell there is a new attitude?

Then Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” He begins to speak. "Before creation, there was the great void and even greater darkness and emptiness. So it should be no wonder my first command was meant to fill that void and dispel the darkness, to overwhelm it with My Light making life possible. "Let there be light!" The sun became the centerpiece of My creation and it was good. But it was not long before the school of hard knocks was built and darkness took its place once again. Now, I've returned, again I shall take My place within you. I have stepped into your darkness, Now you'll go, be My Light."

Let Us Pray: Dear God, who is the light of all life, help us to be aware of your light and love within us and around us. When the evenings begin to draw in, when life is difficult and we find it hard to be hopeful, when we feel down and everything seems dismal, and when, eventually, we realize our own hard knocks are coming to an end, help us to know that your light and love are always there deep down inside us and all around us. The Light of God within us and around us is greater than the darkness.
