Day 14: About The Relevance Of Our Perspectives?
Read: Philippians 3:17 - 21
We never really want to speak of it - in public or in private. We do
not want to think about it or hear about it either. And I am sorry if I
am reminding you of something you would rather not remember. But here it
is anyway .... We don’t want it to be, but life on earth is a temporary
assignment. There it is. I said it life on this earth of ours is only a
temporary state of being. Yes, I can kinda sorta hear the rousing
choruses of boos and cat calls and weird whistles and I'll even say
'your welcome' to the sound of all the "gee, thanks allot" people out there who're just waking up to this 'revelation'.
Whether we like it or not, this 'revelation' shapes some of our long
held perspectives on what we do and how we live that might, by chance,
be a wee bit different from what we have and what we will do if we think
life will permit us to go on forever. I don’t really think that most
people think they’ll go on forever; they simply push their mortality out
of the way and don’t focus on it until they have to. Maybe we’re all
the same way, though. And their is nothing that is even remotely wrong
living this way.
Our finite perspective is simply: We are born,
We are raised, We Live our Lives, We pay our taxes then our families
grieve when we pass away. From God's perspective, from heavens
perspective, life on this earth is comparable to temporarily living in a
foreign country. Here is not your permanent home or final destination.
You’re just passing through and just visiting earth. God then refers to
each of us just an alien, a pilgrim, foreigner, stranger, visitor, and
traveler. Our life here on earth is just a short term visit before
traveling on to our eternal home in the heavens made and shaped by Gods own hand.
Phil. 3.19-20- we are citizens of heaven! That is our country.
Believers understand that there is more to life than just the few years
that we live on this planet. Your identity is in eternity, and your
homeland is heaven. So, where does that leave the relevance of our
'earthly' perspectives? What does this reality do for you? Among other
things, it gives perspective on ‘stuff’ and acquirement here. A lot of
people are caught up with having it all right now, so they try to have
the house, the car, the clothes, the job, and everything in perfection
now. However, we don’t have to. This doesn’t have to be our quest
doesn’t have to dominate our priorities and lifestyles.
Let
us Pray: Change my heart, O God, make it ever new. Change my heart, O
God, let be like You. Change my perspectives, O God, make them ever new.
Change my perspectives, O God, may they be on you. O God, may they
forever be only from You.
